A member of the Sixteenth (16th) Congress of the Republic of the Philippines, where she is an Assistant Majority Leader and Vice Chairperson of the Committee on Public Order and Safety, Lucy Torres-Gomez represents the Fourth District of the Province of Leyte in the House of Representatives.
Among her legislative accomplishments are a law revitalizing the government’s sole television channel, and laws creating a state university and an additional court in her district. Reforms in governance have been instituted through her representation, resulting in the local public works and highways office becoming the best performing in the region, and new classrooms being constructed throughout her constituence which are cost-effective, aesthetically designed, and eco-friendly.
A columnist in one of the country’s leading broadsheet, Ms. Gomez is also a multi-awarded television host. She also has a number of advocacies in her personal capacity, including fund-raising activities for the Philippine National Red Cross, promotion of children’s welfare, and church-related socio-civic projects.
A graduate of the premier state university in the Philippines, Ms. Gomez has been a consistent honor student in her basic education years. She is happily married to Richard Gomez, a movie-t.v. personality, and has a young but accomplished daugher, Juliana.
