Last February 17, 2013, Cong. Lucy Torres-Gomez led the turn-over of a six-classroom building for the students of the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU)-Luna Campus. She gave the ceremonial key of the building to the Campus Director, Dr. Lilian D. Estorninos.
Most of the students were surprised to know that this was not a traditional political project from a Member of Congress. Aside from its funding coming from the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) of Cong Lucy, she was also the one who personally conceptualized the design of the classrooms and of the building. “Ang galing talaga ni Ma’am Lucy” and “Sobrang hands-on pala siya sa projects nya” were some of the phrases heard from the students and university staff members who were watching the turn-over ceremony. Her conceptualized designs of having eco-friendly and power-saving features in the classrooms were drawn for her by the members of the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP).
Joining Cong. Lucy in the turn-over ceremony is her Chief of Staff and husband, Mr. Richard Gomez, who had prepared all the necessary documents in Congress for the funding to be released and for the construction to become a reality. The initiatives of Cong. Lucy for her constituents, because of its service-oriented and non-partisan nature, have the support of the government and also of the Ormoc City community leaders. Other attendees included Mr. Bing Serafica, who supported Cong. Lucy’s initiatives by donating the land needed for the six-classroom building and former Ormoc City Mayor and Congresswoman Maria Victoria Locsin, who is very proud of the political legacies being continued by Cong. Lucy for Ormoc City and for the entire Fourth District of Leyte.
