Full gov’t subsidy for PhilHealth contributions pushed

Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez wants the national government to fully subsidize the premium contributions of the members of the National Health Insurance Program (Philhealth), including the indigents.

The House leader filed House Bill 5341 to institutionalize members’ contributions to the Philhealth through their inclusion in the annual General Appropriations Act (GAA).

“Should this measure be enacted into law, Philhealth coverage would no longer be subject to vicissitudes in political administration, financial capability of local government units, and other factors, ” she said.

“It would also unburden LGUs of having to part with very scarce resources in order to pay for Philhealth premiums of indigents and other citizens residing in their areas of responsibility, ” Torres-Gomez added.
